አደራ .. አደራ!
ማምጣት ነው ለማማ
I dedicate this poem to the Ethiopian National Football/Soccer Teams, Team Ethiopia: Dinknesh or Lucy (Women’s Team, named after humanity’s ancestor, the 3.2 million years old Lucy, or Dinknesh in Amharic, that was found in Ethiopia) and Walia Antelopes (Men’s Team, named after the endemic, but endangered species of ibex, Walia ibex). In the poem, the voice asks the players to bring the African Cup home if they can, so Ethiopians can party like never before; if not victory, the voice says, then please avoid the risk of letting your opponents score too many goals. 🙂 I must state that both teams have been very successful as they have qualified for the upcoming African Cups in their respective divisions, igniting a new hope in the Ethiopian football history. The men’s team brought the country back to the African Cup of Nations after 31 years of disappointment. The women’s team, though young in its existence, has enjoyed commendable victories since it came to the football scene, surprising the nation’s diehard football fans who perhaps never thought their countrywomen too can “bend it like Beckham!” The two teams have so far demonstrated that Ethiopian football has a bright future. I wish them all the best!
And a song that matches the spirit of this post 🙂
